My Date with Destiny

In Dan's Words

It was a Tuesday, June 24th, 2003 and my day started off like every other day. I went to work at National City Bank, drank my coffee, and sat in on a branch meeting about opening more checking accounts.

At about 11:30 I saw a young woman (Andrea) and her mother (Michaela) come in to the branch. Right away I knew they had "checking account" written all over their faces. The tell tale signs include: coming in and looking all around, bringing a significant other (a mother in this case), and coming in around lunch time.

As soon as I looked up, I jumped out of my seat and greeted them. Unbeknownst to the bank it was not because I wanted to open a checking account. I knew right away that I there was something about the young woman that I needed to learn more about.

My biggest obstacle was that they opened the account over the telephone and they wanted to just sign some forms and be on there merry way. Luckily for me, we never got the forms faxed to us, so they had to sit down with me to open the account. What a shame! Then, for the next hour (it normally takes 15 minutes to open a checking account) I tried to give a lasting impression.

During the time Andrea and Michaela sat down with me, I talked to Andrea 10% of the time and Michaela 90% of the time. Ten % was all I needed. I knew that she was the one I had been looking for, without knowing I was looking.

After they left my colleagues said I was grinning from "ear to ear," and they said they had never seen me like that before.

Within a half hour I had decided that I was going to call Andrea and ask if she wanted overdraft protection on her account. On Monday June 30th, I called her, but no one answered. The very next day I saw Andrea walking to the tellers. Once she was finished with her transaction I literally ran over to her and asked of she wanted overdraft protection on her account. My manager witnessed the whole thing and thought I was taking my job to another level.

After 10 minutes of talking with her and remembering way too much about her, I figured she probably thought I was a stalker, or I really liked her. So, I decided to ask her out and the rest is history.
